Description
The raccoon in an intelligent animal that gets up to trouble all the time. These animals are one of the most recognizable animals in North America, they have a pointed snout, a wide skull, rounded ears, sharp teeth, a big hunched back and a bushy tail with four to 10 black rings. The most distinctive markings are the black marks around their eyes that resemble a mask. Much of the Racoons coat consists of dense grey underfur to insulate it from the cold. They have excellent night vision and keen eyes, the raccoon is a nocturnal predator and comes out at night to feed. They spend the remaining daytime asleep in resident rock crevices, hollow trees and dens and rarely leave the immediate area unlessthere is no food available. Raccoons prefers a plant-based diet consisting of seeds, berries, nuts and tubers.
The racoon is native to North America and can be found throughout the United States, except for parts of the Rocky Mountains, and southwestern states like Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. It can also be found in parts of Canada, Mexico and the northern-most regions of South America.
