Description

The Shire is a British breed of draught horse, they are usually black bay or grey. At various times they have held the world record for both the largest and the tallest horse. The biggest horse ever recorded was Sampson, who was from the Shire breed. He weighed an astounding 3,359 pounds and stood over 22 hands tall when he was measured in 1859. They are now used for forestry work and leisure riding. They are very big eaters and need plenty of fresh hay and clean water.
