Description
The House Mouse prefers living in areas close to human habitation. Because of the number of humans they are one of the most successful rodent species. They have short legs, long tails, brown fur and small rounded ears. They are generally about three inches long. Their favorite habitats include barns, houses and sheds. Some do go out into fields, grasslands, and open woodlands but they often return to man-made buildings during the colder months. They eat both plant and animal matter but mostly they hunt insects and other invertebrates. Their usual diet contains a variety of seeds, berries, roots and stems. They will also eat caterpillars, spiders and cockroaches. They are found worldwide.
