Description
Meerkats are small carnivores that are members of the mongoose family. They have black patches around the eyes and small ears on either side. Their front limbs are equipped with finger-like claws they use these to dig tunnels. They stand in an upright position and use their tails for balance. The best habitat for Meerkats is the arid desert, scrubland and savanna. They are ferocious predators and hunt down and kill a number of prey including scorpions and snakes. They frequently eat spiders, mice, rats, eggs, lizards and birds.
They only live in South Africa’s Kalahari Desert. They are found nowhere else in the world apart from Zoos.
