Description
The sperm whale is a large, dark grey marine mammal with a pseudo-torpedo shaped body. It’s mouth lies directly under it’s large forehead. The sperm whale prefers areas that are free from ice and inhabits oceans with depths of 3300 feet on average. They can be found in tropical and temperate oceans and are found in virtually every ocean from the North to South Pole. They are often to be found near underwater canyons and the edges of continental shelves. They surface to breathe and sleep. The sperm whale has the largest brain of any creature known to have lived on Earth! They can hold their breath for up to 90 minutes and eat one ton of fish and squid per day. They will also feed on octopus and stingrays.
